About
Hi, I’m Natalie.
For me, painting is a way to experience the world. I take inspiration from what I see around me, whether it’s in the city where I’ve made my home, in nature, or when travelling. Having been diagnosed with bipolar disorder in my twenties, I am passionate about creating art that expresses the beauty of the world around us as a way to counter destructive emotions.
My paintings are colourful, poetic and rhythmic to engage the viewer in the emotive experience of painting.
Bio
I am originally from Milwaukee, Wisconsin (USA) but, after studying/volunteering/working/living in France/Benin/Alaska/Quebec, respectively, I settled in Saint John, New Brunswick (Canada) with my husband in 2015. From a young age, I have felt compelled to create art in all its forms out of enjoyment of the creation process. I find that the act of painting, in particular, is a self-transcendent experience that lifts me above the hustle and bustle of daily life and gives me a sense that I am connected to something bigger.
While I have pursued art classes throughout my life, I consider myself to be largely self-taught and continually strive to improve my technique through practice and workshops.
