While this painting is based on a scene on the Kennebecasis River in Saint John, New Brunswick, it conjures up memories for me of the time I spent in Alaska where I witnessed the “spring breakup.” In Alaska, this is the term for the process of ice literally “breaking up” and snow melting and turning to slush. To me, it is a reminder of a past life.
